Matthew Cataldi, violinist

You're an extremely versatile violinist, performing with a wide range of groups from Baroque to contemporary music. How do you stay motivated to keep up with it all?
I breathe, a lot.

Do you have a regular practice schedule or routine that you find to be most efficient?
Whenever I have time I usually practice.  Mostly it’s shortly before, after or between rehearsals.

Have you had any recent creative breakthroughs?
I have recently been doing more collaborations through Renovo, which has been really exciting.  It’s really nice to get other people involved with mutual career passions.

You've started your own string orchestra. What has been the most surprising thing to come out of forming a new ensemble?
The most surprising thing has been the musicians who have willingly donated their time.  These are in-demand musicians and I could not be more grateful to have them aiding in this new venture.  It really has been humbling.

If you weren't a musician, what other profession do you think you would have?
I would be a Real Estate agent or Property Manager.  There’s just something about the home, fixing things up that is very appealing.
