When did you start playing music?
I began piano when I was 3 or 4. My mom and I would walk down our back alleyway in Chicago to my teacher's apartment. She was an actress with a theater company, and one of my fondest memories is being invited to see her in "Phantom of the Opera" at the Auditorium Theater downtown. She played "Carlotta". My family moved to Lexington, KY when I was 10 years old and I was introduced to the cello in the fourth grade. A year after that I quit piano lessons.
What piece of equipment would be most useful to you right now?
An electric cello - sweet ass bass amp - assorted pedal combo!
What do you hide under the bed?
Cat food and dirty laundry.
Where do you like to shop for gear and records?
I rarely have the money or drive to do so, but when I get out I like Reckless and Andy's Music, although I'm looking for a shop that would be able to provide more assistance on the electrified-cello end.
How do you stay on top of all your different projects?
I wait until the last minute and then cram as much as I can into the little time I have left. It's just horrible.
How did you get to be such a good driver?
Daddy always said, "Just remember that everyone else on the road is an asshole," and drive accordingly.
What keeps you motivated to practice?
I have to remember what complete bliss and euphoria I experience during performance.
Nora's favorite song:
(listen over here)
1. to get people to dance - Honk / Kaada
2. for long road trips - Perpetual Cup / High Heels
3. from a lesser-known musician - Go / Daniel Johnston
4. "classical" piece - Synchrony #2 / Moondog, performed by Kronos Quartet
5. with great lyrics - Don't Think Twice, It's Alright / Bob Dylan
6. from before 1980 - Reminiscing / Buddy Holly
7. that is on the charts right now - Intervention / Arcade Fire
8. that you've been a part of recording - Tattooed Eyelid / Matthew Shelton
